Mary Trujillo was originally from Ohkay Owingeh. When she married Leonard Trujillo, she joined him at his pueblo of Cochiti. Leonard was a son of Helen Cordero, and Mary learned to make figurative pottery from Helen, her mother-in-law. Helen taught her well. Mary is one of the most accomplished potters at Cochiti. Leonard has helped Mary since the 1980s.

This Nacimiento set follows the Christian nativity format in its style, but exhibits a Native American twist in that the three Kinds carry gifts associated with Native American culture—a wonderful blend of the two religions. The Holy Family, Three Kings, Angel and animals comprise the nacimiento set.

The three Kings bear gifts of ears of corn, drums, and a bow and arrows. Baby Jesus is wrapped in a colorful blanket and strapped into a cradleboard.
