There was a time when Ed Jojola specialized in watercolor paintings but he rarely does so today. This watercolor was painted in 1974. It has been in the same collection since then.
The theme of the painting is meant to convey a time when rainwater was pure, not acid rain or full of other contaminants, a time when one could collect drinking water as it ran off the roof.
The watercolor medium allows an artist to work in a looser style than the medium of oil or that of acrylic. It results in a less structured painting and one with a mellower presentation.
The man holds the jar at the edge of the portal and collects rainwater as if falls from the portal roof. The young girl watches her dad do this. The screen door to the left of the painting stands open, an unnecessary item for the painting, but one that adds interest to the left of the painting that would otherwise be rather plain.
Condition: The painting appears to be in original excellent condition. It is framed in the original frame and has not been examined out of the frame.
