Potters at Acoma and Zuni Pueblos have often traded design elements.  Zuni potters have used designs traditionally associated with Acoma historic pottery and Acoma potters have used designs traditionally associated with Zuni historic pottery.  This jar features the Zuni heartline deer design that originated at Zuni Pueblo and apparently was first used at Acoma by Lucy Lewis in the 1950s or 1960s.  Interestingly, this jar, in addition to the traditional Zuni heartline deer, also features the traditional Acoma parrot design, a melding of two cultures.

 Vallo signature

The jar is signed with the name Vallo, but no first name.  The Vallo family is a large family and we have not yet determined which Vallo member made this jar.
