Fred Harvey has been referred to as the person who “invented the Southwest.” His influence in developing markets for people traveling to the Southwest is unsurpassed. His hotels and restaurants along the railroad from Chicago to Los Angles were places where Southwest Indians could sell their artwork. The manufacture of pottery, textiles, baskets and jewelry became a major source of income for the Navajo, Pueblo and Apache people of the Southwest. He influenced styles and objects sold in his establishments by encouraging certain motifs and designs he considered to be the most marketable. These designs included such things as thunderbirds, feathers, arrows, water symbols, and horse-like animals.

This cut-out bracelet includes the feather, arrow and thunderbird stamps typical of classic Fred Harvey jewelry. Five bands of silver are separated by four expertly cut out areas. Each band is stamped and the sides of the bracelet feature a thunderbird and a selection of arrows and feathers.

It is a very collectible piece of Southwestern art history.

Condition: very good condition.
