Adobe Gallery August 2015 Indian Market Special Exhibit

The Marvin and Betty Rubin Collection of “20th-Century Native Arts”

The Marvin and Betty Rubin Collection of 20th-Century Native ArtsThis exhibit of Native American art started with 13 paintings from the Collection of Marvin and Betty Rubin of Albuquerque—paintings of the generation of Native artists who abandoned the Santa Fe Indian School style of The Studio of the Dorothy Dunn days in the 1930s.  Most of these artists from the Rubin Collection had attended the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe where teachers such as Otellie Loloma, Fritz Scholder, Allan Houser and others encouraged the students to find their own way in their art and express their individual personalities in their work.

Marvin and Betty Rubin concentrated on collecting art by these modernist artists and gracefully agreed to let us have 13 pieces from their immense collection for our 2015 Santa Fe Indian Market exhibit.  We have supplemented their collection with other art of similar nature, some by the same artists.

This exhibit is a new venture for Adobe Gallery as we have, in the past, concentrated on the paintings of the earlier artists, most of whom attended the Santa Fe Indian School in the 1930s. We are proud of the way the exhibit looks on the walls of the gallery and hope you have time to visit the gallery during the exhibit or, at least, look at each painting on our web site.  They are all available for purchase so please let us know promptly if you are interested in any.  I hope you enjoy the exhibit as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you.
