Ben Adair Shoemaker (Quapaw/Shawnee/Cherokee) has been a full-time artist since 1978.  He is from Oklahoma and attended High School in Tulsa, the University of Tulsa and Tulsa Junior College.  His accolades exceed our space for listing as do the numerous exhibits of his paintings.  He was published in The Tulsa World in 1983, The Tulsa Tribune in 1987, and Muskogee Daily Phoenix in 1993.  He was designated a Master Artist in 1986 by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, Muskogee, Oklahoma.

This painting of a mother holding her child within her blanket is a touching tribute to motherhood.  It is serene and affectionate.  The long brown blanket she wears contrasts beautifully with the dark blue sky with shining stars and a crescent moon.  There is little detail to detract from the loving face of the mother.

The painting is signed and dated in lower left Ben Adair Shoemaker ’85. It was delivered to us without a frame and has now been matted and framed with acid-free materials and a brown wood frame.
