This pottery item represents a first for us—the first box we have ever had by Russell Sanchez and the first miniature item by him. One might assume that it was constructed in a slab method where slabs of clay were formed and then put together to form the base and walls, but Russell said that it was formed in the coil method as any pot would be and then the coils were smoothed out to form the square shape.
Two of the walls are designed with sgraffito-carved deer, each of different shape. The other two walls each feature a Kingman turquoise cab embedded into the clay and backed by a circle of sienna coloration. The lid is stone-polished black devoid of decoration.
