Jody Naranjo, Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery

Jody Naranjo is one of the most innovative and talented contemporary potters today. She began potting at the age of 8 years and began winning prizes as a teenager. Her work incorporates a mixture of traditional materials and methods with individual creative elements. Each piece is unique. Traditionally seed jars were used as storage vessels. This little jar has 8 lively mountain sheep cavorting around the shoulder of the bowl. The animals have a subtle micaceous slip that stands out against a sgraffito background. The neck and base of the jar have a complementary rust brown color with a delicate stepped cloud design that makes one wonder, “How did she do this?” This piece is signed by the artist and dated 2011. Condition: This jar is new and in original excellent condition Recommended Reading: Pueblo Indian Pottery 750 Artist Biographies by Gregory Schaaf Provenance: from the artist
