Santa Fe Indian School

Adobe Gallery exhibit and sale:  10 paintings by 8 students of The Studio of The Santa Fe Indian School from a class of the year 1943.  It is believed that Conrad Hilton purchased these paintings from the students for his first Albuquerque hotel which opened in 1939.  Only two of the eight students are known to have painted as a career later in life.  There is no published information on 6 of the students so it is assumed that they chose a career other than painting.

Examples of artworks from the following students are on display and for sale at Adobe Gallery:

Lorenzo Duran, Picuris Pueblo

Pat Torres, San Juan Pueblo

Reyes Lovato, Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo

Ramos Sanchez, San Ildefonso Pueblo

Augustine Bird, Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo

Harley L., Hopi Pueblo

Johnny Toledo, Jemez Pueblo

Rita Martinez, Taos Pueblo
