Signature of Betty and Lee Tafoya – Santa Clara PuebloLee Tafoya (b.1926- ), grandson of Sara Fina Tafoya and the son of Margaret Tafoya, and his wife, Betty, are the parents of Phyllis Tafoya, Melvin Tafoya, and Linda Tafoya Oyenque, all of whom also are potters of renown.  Lee and Betty work together and co-sign their pottery.

 

This jar is an excellent example of the high quality of their pottery.  The carving was executed in a precise and expert manner, the burnishing finished in a very high sheen, and the firing controlled to produce a deep black luster. 

 

Condition: new condition

Provenance: from a gentleman from Albuquerque
