This is an extraordinarily beautiful bowl of traditional characteristics from Tesuque Pueblo. The paste is typically Tesuque in consistencytan in color and fibrous in texture.  The un-slipped tan exterior exhibits the bumpiness characteristic of Tesuque pottery.  The bottom is flat and features an extraordinary fire cloud.  There is no design on the exterior.

There is a pair of black framing lines at the edge of the rim, another pair just below the rim, a third pair in the main body design and, finally, a fourth pair near the bottom of the bowl.  The pairs of framing lines do not contain ceremonial line breaks, following a tradition at Tesuque dating back more than 200 years.  The rim is painted black and has dimples about every 2-1/2 inches.

There is a custom-made black metal stand that is part of the set.  The bowl displays beautifully in the stand.

Condition: UV light examination reveals a repaired vertical crack in the area of the exterior fire cloud.  It does not appear to be a serious fault.

Provenance: from the extensive collection of a Santa Fe resident who is unfortunately moving to another city and found it necessary to greatly reduce her collection.
