Art Vigil is a grandson of the famous Tesuque Pueblo potters Vicenta and Manuel Vigil.  His mom is Anna Marie Lovato of Kewa Pueblo.  His pottery is of the style of his grandparents who used acrylic paints on previously fired pottery.

In this wonderful folk art piece, he has placed a couple in a canoe that has been decorated with multi-storied adobe buildings on the canoe walls.  An Avanyu (water serpent) pair appear to be shooting lightning and rain over the village. The male is dressed very much like a preacher and the female is dressed as a pueblo woman.

It is my understanding from Charles Rosenak that Art Vigil is no longer actively making pottery and has not made any in a number of years.

Condition: very good condition

Provenance: from the personal collection of Chuck and Jan Rosenak, collectors of Native American art and authors of books on Navajo folk art.
