In southwestern Native American culture, turquoise represents water and sky. In the desert southwest water is an essential element for survival. Traditional dances celebrate rain and prayers are made for the continued blessing of rain.

Turquoise jewelry has been cherished for centuries in the American southwest. Archaeologists have found turquoise jewelry and stones in prehistoric sites of the Four Corners, prominently at Chaco Canyon in northwestern New Mexico. There is speculation that Chaco was a major distribution center for turquoise with New Mexican turquoise being found as far away as central Mexico. With the arrival of the Spanish, natives added silver to their jewelry. It was the perfect metal to accentuate the beauty of the stone that looked like water and sky.

Three sky-blue stones are placed in intricate bezels which are set on a finely stamped cuff. The silver sets off the amazing blue-green of the stones.

Condition: very good condition.
