Potters from Zia Pueblo are known for making excellent pottery tiles.  They are not as easy to make as one might expect. Because they are flat, they often crack when drying, or even when firing. It takes an experienced potter to prevent this from happening.

The potter who made this tile/candle holder combination solved the problem by reinforcing the tile with a buttress on the back, she then capped it with a candle holder.  The item is not signed with the name of a potter but it is quite likely it was made by Trinidad Medina or Isabel Medina.

Condition: very good condition.  It has been used as a candle holder and there is some candle wax residue.

Provenance: from a family in Colorado
