José Rey Toledo (1915-1994)Add José Rey Toledo (1915-1994) to My PreferencesToledo was formally trained in fine art and art education, receiving an A.B. Degree from the University of New Mexico. Following graduation, he became head of the art department at the Santa Fe Indian School. His preference was watercolor and his favorite theme was pueblo dance figures. He did some larger paintings featuring several dancers in action, but most often he painted a single figure. His attention to detail was extraordinary and his use of color was strong and brilliant.
The Museum of Arts and Culture of the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe, featured a retrospective exhibit of Toledo's work in 1994, just shortly before he passed away.
