BooksOut of PrintPueblo Indian Pottery: 750 Artist Biographies, C. 1800-Present, With Value/Price Guide, Featuring over 20 Years of Auction Records (American Indian Art Series, 1)
Gregory and Angie Schaaf CIAC Press Native American Pottery Hardcover 304 pages, black & white photos Item # 0-9666948-1-3 / $250.00 This volume, second in the series on pueblo pottery, features potters and examples from six Rio Grande Tewa Pueblos located in northern New Mexico: Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Tesuque, Nambe, and Pojoaque. This volume profiles over 750 artists from the past two centuries, featuring over 500 illustrations of artist portraits, hundreds of pots and historic village scenes. This book was created with the cooperation of Pueblo Indian artists. Through artist surveys, archival research and personal interviews, information was collected in 25 categories: including the artist's pueblo, social group, clan, active years, lifespan, family relationships, education, teachers, students, awards, demonstrations, exhibitions, collections, favorite designs, publications, and twenty years of auction records. Many artists completed a personal statement, and some wrote or narrated autobiographical statements. Following the biographies are family tree charts which illustrate how artistic traditions are passed down from one generation to the next. The bibliography focuses on Tewa Pueblo artists and their arts. |
