Weaver Unknown Akimel O´odham (Pima) . 2-3/8 " diameter Item # 24194 SOLD In the late 1800s, baskets were made in every Pima home. By 1920, less than 10% of the women knew how to weave baskets. With the availability of commercial vessels, it was no longer necessary to weave baskets for their own use, and there was so little interest by the buying public that there was no incentive to make baskets. Some women turned to making miniature baskets to sell to the visitors to the reservation. This one is most probably an early 20th century tourist piece. It is in excellent condition. |
