Romando Vigil's Tewa name is Tse Ye Mu which means Falling Cloud. He was born in January 1902 at San Ildefonso Pueblo. He painted infrequently during the 1920-1950 period, and then took a job with Walt Disney Studio in California. He returned to San Ildefonso and painted for about 10 years before his death in 1978.
This painting of a buffalo dancer could be from his later period, which is during the last 10 years of his life. It is in original excellent condition. The framing materials are acid-free, so it probably has been reframed during the past 20 years or so. The black wood frame shows some loss of paint and could be replaced with a more attractive frame.
Provenance: Provideded on request.
