SPECIAL NOTICE: We have been authorized to offer this truly spectacular black bowl by Maria and Popovi Da at a price of only $2500, reduced from the original price of $3500.
This is a beautiful stone-polished black bowl by Maria Martinez (1887-1980) and her son, Popovi Da (1922-1971) . It is signed on the underside Maria/Popovi and dated 1167. Pieces by Maria and Popovi that have a date inscribed are among the most popular with collectors. Popovi started working with his mom sometime in 1956 and started dating their pottery in 1959. He had a short career with his mom, only about 15 years because he passed away in 1972. There are probably fewer pottery items with their joint signature than there are others with whom Maria worked, including her husband and daughter-in-law.
Provenance: This bowl was purchased from Anita Da, wife of Popovi, at their store on San Ildefonso Pueblo. It is in original excellent condition.
