Virginia Ebelacker, Santa Clara Pueblo Potter

Virginia Ebelacker is certainly deserving of the accolades cast upon her as a truly outstanding artisan. This round storage jar is testimony to that. Its form and balance are extraordinary, and the burnishing produced a most striking sheen to the finished product. This is a true collector’s prize.

As a granddaughter of Sara Fina Tafoya and daughter of Margaret Tafoya, Virginia is certainly carrying on the tradition of making the finest large storage jars imaginable. This one deserves a place of honor in some collector’s home.

The size of the jar is impressive, the burnishing is even more impressive, and the condition could not be finer. There are four bear paws impressed into the wall of the jar. It is signed Virginia Ebelacker Santa Clara Pueblo on the underside.

Awards: This jar was awarded First Prize at the 60th Annual Santa Fe Indian Market (1981) and also Best of Division at the same time. The two award ribbons accompany the jar.

Provenance: Colorado collector.
