Tourist items such as this were very popular in the decades of the 1920s and 1930s, and many Navajo, working independently or for such companies as The Fred Harvey Company, made them. Rarely do we see them being made today. Most native smiths are into making wearable jewelry for today’s tourists and collectors.
This book mark is bent over at the top to provide for hooking onto the page of a book. Atop the bent-over portion is an eagle with traditional stamping. The back of the item is stamped Sterling. There is no maker’s name or mark.
