This is truly a magnificent small jar that is, without doubt, from the hands of an exceptional potter. The vessel shape is reminiscent of the Sikyatki seed jars that were the precedent for many of the 19th century Hopi wares. The very thin vessel wall, the slightly raised and defined lip and execution of the design all are indicators of superior workmanship.
The design is unique. It consists of seven vertical divisions in each of which the same design is repeated. The designs are comprised of triangles connected to form a complete ensemble.
The whole jar was slipped from top to bottom and the decorations were applied with mineral paint. The bottom is rounded but the jar sits on a level plane. It is an excellent historic piece that is in excellent condition.
