Tse-Pé is the son of Rose Gonzales and Dora is his former wife. Early in their career, they produced pottery together and the pieces were co-signed. This small jar is signed Tse-Pé & Dora and dated 1978. It is beautifully carved in early sgraffito style where the background for the design was pecked away, leaving the design in the polished form of the remainder of the jar. The background behind the Avanyu (water serpent) is rust colored and the remainder of the jar is stone-polished black. A drilled turquoise hieshe is placed for the eye of the Avanyu.
Condition: The jar is in original excellent condition.
Provenance: Estate of Evelyn and Herbert Weinstein, Santa Fe.
