Margaret and Luther were the children of Lela and Van Gutierrez. Working together, the siblings continued the polychrome style of painting begun by their parents. Sometimes their work is whimsical and other times it is most elegant. This seed jar falls into the latter category.
The vessel was exquisitely shaped to perfection. The entire vessel was then painted with a stylized Avanyu (Water Serpent) encircling the body of the vessel and concentric circles expanding outward from the rim. The base is painted in a deep red paint as is the area surrounding the rim.
The jar is in excellent condition, and a small amount of the design has been over-painted, particularly the water serpent's mouth.
