During the 1930s the Zuni started to make jewelry that depicted supernatural beings. For the most part these designs were altered so as not to offend the traditional Zuni people. One of the most popular beings was the Rainbow Man. This rendition of Rainbow Man seems to come alive with movement. The unknown Zuni artist has cut and shaped each individual stone and set it in a mosaic inlay style that is extremely difficult to do. This piece is a fine early example of Zuni mosaic inlay.
