This pottery seed jar, made by Mary Small of Jemez Pueblo, is unique in the use of colors. The seed jar was covered is white slip, over which the artist painted designs in gray and red pigments. It has a fan of prayer feathers surrounding the hole in the top center and a profusion of rain clouds and rain elements around the body.
Mary Small (1940 - ) Kal-La-Tee was one of the earliest potters at Jemez Pueblo to elevate pottery at that pueblo from tourist wares to collector pieces. She uses a unique gray slip in decorating the vessels. Each pot is decorated to precision and each is unique in design.
The name of the artist, Mary Small, is inscribed on the underside.

Provenance: Originally from a client in Wichita Kansas. Now from the client to whom we sold it in 2008
