One of the most unusual serving bowls is this one from Kewa Pueblo.  It has a rounded lower bowl with a squared-off rim. Interestingly, it appears to have been made for pueblo use as evidenced by the slip loss on the exterior and around the exterior rim.  The interior, however, does not show any evidence of having been extensively used. It is these variances that add intrigue and mystery.

The interior of the bowl has a wide red slip around the rim, with black-on-cream designs in the bowl.  The interior design appears to be a floral element spreading from the bottom to the four sides of the bowl.  The exterior of the bowl has a more traditional floral pattern with red berries along the plant stem. It would be safe to say that the potter was in a creative mood when she designed this bowl.  It is unusual and striking in appearance.

Condition: this Kewa Pueblo Polychrome Square Top Bowl has some some minor repairs at the rim

Provenance: from the Historic Southwest Indian Pottery collection of a gentleman from Albuquerque
