Rosemary Apple Blossom used the sgraffito incising technique on this egg-shaped pottery seed pot designed with butterflies. Rosemary is a daughter of Joseph Lonewolf and learned the techniques of making fine sgraffito designs from her famous father. Rosemary was born in 1954 and she started making pottery around 1972 and has continued. She works in miniature scale and in multiple color pigments.
This exquisite miniature egg-shaped seed pot combines the techniques of stone polishing and sgraffito etching. In a heart-shaped section of the body, there are beautiful butterflies on a tan background. On the opposite side is a single butterfly. The designs were highlighted with green and blue natural pigments. Joining the butterflies are floral designs. The design is delicate and beautifully executed. The jar is signed Apple Blossom and with an apple blossom hallmark as well at the letters GCLCR.
Condition: this Red Sgraffito Seed Jar with Butterflies is in excellent original condition.
Provenance: from collection of a resident of Texas who purchased it in the 1980s
