Margaret Tafoya, Santa Clara Pueblo Potter

Artist signature - Margaret Tafoya (1904 - 2001) Maria Margarita Tafoya - Corn BlossomMargaret Tafoya (1904 - 2001) Maria Margarita Tafoya - Corn Blossom is a name all collectors of twentieth century pueblo pottery know very well. She and her family were and are major potters of blackware pottery. Margaret is associated with having made very large vessels, but she also made smaller items as well.  This stone-polished black wedding vessel would be among the smaller pottery Margaret made. It is totally without decoration yet is stunningly beautiful in its plainness. Sometimes, decorations can detract from a pottery vessel’s beauty.
