Except for not having a flip lid, this vessel resembles a beer tankard.  Perhaps that was the intent of the potter or perhaps not.  The vessel bulges at the mid-point just slightly larger than the rim and base.  The handle is a bird figurine.  There is no doubt that it is of Zuni origin, however, the design layout is not of a traditional Zuni style.

The vessel body is divided into upper and lower sections, each of which is sectioned off in squares.  The upper squares each have a simple triangular element in brown pigment.  The lower squares each have a bird, some in orange and some in brown.  Each also has triangular elements.

Condition:  the vessel is in good structural condition with no evidence of repairs.  There is paint abrasion, evidence of significant age of the vessel

Provenance: this Zuni Pueblo Tankard Shaped Mug is from a client in Colorado
