According to published information, Zuni potters had a brief period of producing White-on-red pottery—from 1890 to 1920—a period that ended for no known reason. It is quite possible that Zuni trader C. G. Wallace found it not of interest and preferred the Zuni Polychrome wares. Wallace was the outlet for crafts being made at Zuni Pueblo so he pretty well dictated to the potters and jewelers what he wanted.

This is a large red boot with a painted white heartline deer.  The boot upper section is red and the sole is black, the same black used on traditional Zuni pottery bases.

Condition:  If the boot is truly a hundred years old, and it probably is, then the condition is marvelous.  There is no damage and no repairs.

Provenance: this Zuni White on Red Pictorial Pottery Moccasin is from from the pottery collection of a client from Oklahoma
