George Cordero (1944-1990) signature

Artist George Cordero was the son of the famous Cochiti Pueblo potter Helen Cordero. He learned the art of pottery making from his mother. It was Helen Cordero who taught her son George to make pottery figurines.

George Cordero (1944-1990) mastered the technique of making pottery figurines to the point that it is difficult to tell if a piece is by him or by his mother, Helen Cordero. Looking at the signatures is the only way to know for sure.

George's sister, Antonita, and his daughter Buffy, also made figurine pottery. It was Helen Cordero who taught all of them to make pottery figurines.
