Louie Ewing (1908-1983) signatureLouie Ewing, was born in Idaho, moved to Santa Fe in 1935 and worked on the New Mexico Federal Art Project of the WPA where he was one of the pioneer artists of the silkscreen print, a medium that originated in the WPA art projects.

His background in art training was founded at the Santa Maria School for Art, and he went on to teach in New Mexico.  His work as a printmaker was for the Index of American Design and he even taught printmaking to Native Americans. 

He later worked for the Laboratory of Anthropology in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
