R. C. GORMAN —CHINLE TO TAOS

Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, New Mexico

June 3 —July 4, 1998

Written and compiled by Virginia Dooley. Softcover exhibit catalog, 63 pages, illustrated

“This exhibition and catalogue are intended as a journey through the life’s work of the artist R. C. Gorman.

“Gorman’s association with the Millicent Rogers Museum is both cordial and long standing.  In 1998 he was made an Honorary Member of its Board of Trustees and his work has been shown previously on numerous occasions in the Museum.  Certainly a large part of Gorman’s popularity is found in his successful translation of his ‘Indianness’ in his art work—a translation that transcends the complexities of cultural differences as well as the trauma of America’s history with Native Americans.  To this extent, Gorman mirrors that part of this Museum’s educational mission, the sensitive yet formative telling of another’s culture.

“It is with great honor that this Museum presents R. C. Gorman: Chinle to Taos.”  Patrick T. Houlihan, Ph.D, Executive Director
