YUMAN POTTERY MAKING

By Malcolm J. Rogers

San Diego Museum Papers, No. 2, February 1936

Softcover, 52 pages plus fold out pages.  Illustrated, first edition, 1936

The purpose of this publication was to present the subject of Yuman ceramic technique in its aboriginal form, deleting recent intrusive practices where they could be proved to be such.  It is still, however, an historical picture in which ancient practice is stressed.

Archaeological evidence indicates that it is not a complete presentation of the earliest phase of the art; and ethnological research, that knowledge of these phases cannot be obtained from Indian informants.  It is intended to present the archaeological aspects of the subject in a future paper.
