Concha belts have evolved over the last 150 years from simple round coin silver discs with no decoration to round or oval discs with stamping of designs to finally a unique elaborate scene placed on each concha as in this belt.
One concha has a hogan, a shepherd and sheep, tree, outhouse, rug loom and a hay stack. Each of the other 10 conchas and the buckle feature similar but different design elements. Each concha is unique and displays some aspect of Diné daily life. There are clouds, deer, smoke from hogans, people, horses, plants, buttes, mountains, wagons and other items on various conchas discs.
The buckle is stamped with the initials L and H with STERLING inserted between the letters. The leather belt is long enough to accommodate waist sizes from 30-1/2 to 38-1/2 inches. Each of the 10 conchas and the buckle has a round domed coral cab at its center.
Condition: very good condition with only one chip out of one coral cab.
Provenance: this Diné Silver and Coral Navajo Storyteller Concho Belt is from a gentleman from Ohio
