During the heyday of adventurers traveling across the American Southwest, the Fred Harvey company set up gift shops in hotels and restaurants along Route 66. Sold at these gift shops was jewelry that was marketed to meet the tastes and style of the tourists. The settings were more Victorian in design than the traditional work the Native Americans made for their own use. Elaborate floral and lace like motifs were common. Occasionally, cast, machine made appliqué would be added to a hand cut and stamped base.

Perhaps because the stone in this Fred Harvey style bracelet was so beautiful, the artist decided to use fancy applique to enhance the beauty of the spider web cabochon of turquoise. It is an extraordinarily beautiful stone, and the manufactured findings surrounding the stone don’t lessen the attractive look of the piece. It was made to attract the traveler, and this is what the artist believed the buyer wanted.

Condition: The Fred Harvey Style Bracelet with Large Spider Web Stone is in excellent condition and the stone is flawless.
