In 1948, Maria Martinez’s son, Popovi Da, opened the Popovi Da Studio of Indian Arts at San Ildefonso Pueblo. He and his wife, Anita, ran the studio for decades. They featured and sold only the highest quality artwork. This stunning watch bracelet was part of the inventory left when the gallery closed. It was passed down to their granddaughter from whom we obtained it.
This bracelet was incredibly well crafted and includes two high-grade turquoise stones and two pieces of the most brilliant dark red coral. The four stones are set in a frame of small drops of gold, and stamps of what could be a rising sun and wings or feathers. The bracelet includes a Timex™ watch which is still in working order.
It is stamped on the back TT, the hallmark initials of Thomas (Tommy) Tso, a Navajo craftsman. He is known for his silver jewelry with coral, turquoise, and or bear claws. Tommy is the brother of Leonard Tso, Irene Cordell, Loretta Bunny, and Loreine Begay.
Condition: this Gold Watch Bracelet with Coral and Turquoise is in very good condition
Provenance: from the remaining inventory of the Popovi Da Studio of Indian Arts, San Ildefonso Pueblo, descended to his granddaughter
