This vintage Diné of the Navajo Nation silver bead necklace consists of 28 inches of elegant handmade silver beads made by an unknown Diné artist in the late twentieth century. Each silver bead was formed in two hemispherical sections, then soldered, and drilled. They were strung on triple strand wires and then capped off with silver cones and a handmade hook feature.
Diné silversmiths learned how to craft silver in the middle of the nineteenth century from the Mexicans, and quickly mastered the art, innovating and creating their own traditions in silver and turquoise. The bead necklace is one of the most iconic of jewelry forms made by Diné silversmiths. This necklace is unsigned.
Condition: the necklace is in excellent condition.
