Once Known Native American Carver

This Hopi Pueblo carving is medium-heavy indicating that it may be carved from a cottonwood trunk rather than the root.  Also, the heaviness may come solely from its size.  Her arms were carved separately and attached with a peg in each shoulder.  Her moccasin feet were carved separately and added to the legs.  She is mounted on a square black wood platform of the style used by the Fred Harvey Company on many of its katsina dolls.  She appears to be from the period of the 1940s.  There are no specific markings to indicate that it was part of the Fred Harvey collection other than the black pedestal used on many of its dolls.

Condition: this Hopi Pueblo Female Social Dance Mana from the Fred Harvey Collection is in very good condition.  The paint is still vibrant with minimal abrasions.
