Mitchell Sockyma was born at HotevillaHopi Pueblo, Arizona.  He learned to make jewelry at the Hopi Arts and Crafts Guild. He has been making jewelry since the mid-1970s. His work is in the collection of the Peabody Museum at Harvard University and he has been featured in numerous publications including American Indian Art Magazine (Autumn 1996; Winter 1996).

Mitchell Sockyma signs artwork with hallmark of a turtle.This substantial man’s ring made by Sockyma features the overlay image of a Long Hair Katsina. He deftly cut an intricate image of the katsina and carefully placed it over an oxidized layer of silver. The shank has two carefully chiseled lines that give the ring an elegant look. The ring is signed with the artist’s hallmark—a turtle.


Condition: The Hopi Ring with Long Hair Katsina Image is in very good condition. There are signs of gentle wear.

Provenance: The ring comes from an extensive Southwest Indian Jewelry collection in Colorado
