A Diné silversmith crafted a bolo tie and a pair of cufflinks with matching chrysocolla cabochons mounted on sterling silver. Chrysocolla and turquoise are similar in appearance and for good reason. Both are secondary copper minerals and range in color from light blue to blue green. In addition, both commonly occur as vein fill or in nodular form. It is suspected that this unusual pairing was a special order.
Placement of the chrysocolla on the silver was arranged in a shadow box form. The stone is enclosed in a silver bezel and attached to a blackened silver back plate and surrounded by a polished silver frame. The stone appears to be floating.
The pair of cufflinks features a rectangular shaped chrysocolla stone mounted in a silver bezel and surrounded by a thin frame of stamped silver. The chrysocolla in the bolo and cufflinks is matching in color and probably came from the same mine.
The use of cufflinks, popular in the last century, seems to be making a come-back today. This pair is striking and makes quite a statement. The bolo, added to the ensemble, would be very impressive.
