Navajo Silver Bead Necklace with Turquoise Cross [SOLD]

The cross design pre-dates the arrival of the Europeans in the American Southwest. It was associated with the four directions. When the Spanish arrived, the motif was easily incorporated into the traditional iconography of silversmiths. 

Seven turquoise cabochons that have been framed with twisted silver wire and silver drops are set on this mid twentieth century cross. The cross hangs gracefully on a necklace of graduated silver beads. All have been strung on a section of waxed cotton string.  The necklace is unsigned. 

Condition: this Navajo Silver Bead Necklace with Turquoise Cross is in excellent condition. The beads have acquired a lovely dark patina.
