Silver and Coral Ring in an Oval Floral Display [SOLD]

This silver ring made by a Diné of the Navajo Nation artisan has seven red coral cabs mounted in silver bezels and arranged in a flower design. The platform on which the design is mounted is a silver sheet that was blackened to better set off the coral.

Coral was introduced to the Southwest by the Spaniards but was not used extensively until the late 1930s, when traders imported it to Zuni Pueblo. Most coral used in the Southwest came from the Mediterranean. Both Pueblo and Navajo artisans have worked with coral. We have designated this ring as having been made by an unidentified Diné of the Navajo Nation artisan.
