This late 20th Century cuff is a lively depiction of various motifs that are unique to the Navajo Reservation. The artist cut out and placed gold overlay images on a silver background of a sheep, a goat and a horse, along with a woman weaving and a silversmith working on his jewelry. The spires of Monument Valley rise over a Navajo landscape that include a traditional hogan and a farmer traveling in a horse drawn wagon. The detail of the gold cut out images is painstakingly precise.
The bracelet is hallmarked with a double R, with one of the Rs upside down. We have been unable to find out who the artist is. The bracelet is stamped “sterling” but there is no stamp defining the gold content.
Condition: The Overlay Storyteller Silver and Gold Bracelet with Navajo Reservation Scenes is in very good condition. The silver shows evidence of loving wear.
Provenance: from a collector of jewelry from Colorado.
