Roscoe Scott is a Diné artisan from the Navajo Nation who has been active since the 1970s. He worked as a bench smith early in his career for the Atkinson Trading Company. He is known for his fine overlay work.
This lovely cuff features geometric cutouts that represent various elements of nature important to desert dwelling people—clouds, water and rain. In addition to the overlay, The artist added traditional Diné stampwork along one edge. The fine attention to detail on this overlay bracelet is one reason why Roscoe Scott’s work continues to be sought and collected.
Condition: The overlay style bracelet with stampwork is in very good condition. There are signs of loving wear which gave it a soft patina.
Provenance: The overlay style bracelet with stampwork is from a Colorado Southwest Indian Jewelry collection

Note: when we say Diné, as opposed to Navaho or Navajo, we are referring to the people and not the government. Since 1969, their government refers to itself as the Navajo Nation.
