Zuni Pueblo Petit Point Shadow Box Turquoise Dangle Earrings [SOLD]

In the decade between 1925 and 1935, commercial interest in Southwest Indian Jewelry greatly increased.  Partially responsible was the Fred Harvey Company and its large advertising campaigns. Additionally, traders opened more outlets in the Southwest and expanded their markets by setting up showings around the country.

Fancier jewelry with showier aspects began to develop in an effort to capture the market.  Traders hired more jewelers and encouraged more creativity. Dangles suspended from the main platform of an earring became popular.  Although this style developed in the early twentieth century, this pair was made much later, probably in the 1980s or so.

Beautifully cut, long, thin and domed turquoise cabs were mounted in serrated bezels, adhered to a silver backing, and framed in a shadow box arrangement.  They were not signed with the name of the maker.

Provenance: from the extensive vintage jewelry collection we received in August 2018 from a Colorado family.
