Agate is a stone composed of silicates that is most often found around volcanoes. It is surprising it was not used more often in Diné jewelry as it seems to mimic the landscape colors of the Four Corners area of the Navajo Reservation.

This mid-century ring features a rectangular piece of agate that has been set in a classic straight edged bezel and surrounded by a small frame of twisted wire.  The stone has a three dimensional quality, with lines of white, brown and red swirling together, reminiscent of the colors of the Dinétah, or Navajo homeland. It is set on a split shank. The ring is unsigned.

Note: when we say Diné, a s opposed to Navaho or Navajo, we are referring to the people and not the government.  Since 1969, their government refers to itself as the Navajo Nation.

Condition:  very good condition.

Provenance:  this Diné Silver Ring with a Translucent Agate Gemstone Setting is from a Colorado Southwest Indian Jewelry collection
