Diné artist Abraham Begay has been creating stunning pieces of jewelry using a variety of methods since the 1970s. He incorporates inlay, overlay and quality silverwork to fashion small works of art. Begay has exhibited at the Smithsonian, the Eiteljorg and Indian Market among others, and has won numerous awards throughout his career.
This belt buckle dates from the late 1990s. Begay has centered a mosaic band consisting of a mixture of turquoise, coral, opal, sugilite and purple goldstone. Framing the mosaic are geometric designs of sterling overlay. The piece was purchased directly from the artist at the LA Fairgrounds Show in 1998. It is signed by the artist with the hallmark AB.
