Zuni lapidary artists began making petit point and needlepoint jewelry in the 1920s. Zuni Pueblo artists use the small pieces of stone as a painter uses paint to create beautiful designs. Great skill and patience is required to cut and shape stones into small pieces. This petit point ring features six small teardrop turquoise stones surrounding an oval stone in the middle, resembling a butterfly or perhaps a flower. The artist added small silver drops in between the stones which are set on a three pronged shank. The ring dates from the early 20th Century.

Condition: The Zuni Petit Point Butterfly Ring is in very good condition. All of the small stones are intact and snug in their hand made bezels.

Provenance: The ring is from an extensive Southwest Indian Jewelry collection in Colorado
